ANNOUNCEMENT: Staffing Changes to Blue Canoe
August 22, 2017- The Board of Directors of Blue Canoe Theatrical Productions Inc. have announced new staffing changes coming to Blue Canoe. Michael Sheppard, the founder of Blue Canoe and the Juvenis Festival has been serving as the Artistic Director/Producer for the past 10 years. He will be stepping down from his position that he has held as a volunteer since the formation of Blue Canoe.
Blue Canoe's Board of Directors is very excited to welcome a new staff that will take over the leadership of Blue Canoe moving forward. Blue Canoe is also excited to welcome back the team behind The Juvenis Festival, which will return for a third year in May 2018. Jessica Rossiter (left) will be taking on the role of General Manager and Maddy Scovil (Right) the role of Artistic Director. Also joining the team will be Ryan Cowl as Education Coordinator, looking to assist in Blue Canoe's plans to expand in education. The Board is very excited to welcome our 3 new team members who will join our returning staff to support all of our projects for the coming year. Kingston's youth arts organization has grown substantially over the past few years and will continue to create opportunities for youth to explore the arts through theatre, music, dance, visual arts, education, production and so much more. t

About Blue Canoe:
Blue Canoe is a youth run theatre company and a non-profit organization. The company was founded on December 13, 2006 by a group of High School Students from Regi, a High School in Kingston. It was incorporated in November 2011 as a non-profit organization in Ontario. The goal of Blue Canoe is to create opportunities for youth in Kingston, Ontario who are between the ages of 13-30 to explore their interest in theatre and the arts. Every production has youth in each of the roles on a production, which helps young people to explore the arts by participating on stage, off stage, in design, production, direction, producing and event planning.
Recently Blue Canoe has expanded to offering opportunities in other areas in the arts with programs such as the Viva Voce, a partnership with the Kingston Frontenac Public Library, a storytelling coffeehouse for youth to tell their stories in a variety of ways. A cabaret evening called Songs & Spirits which features music themed together for a night at Blu Martini. And now the Juvenis Festival, Kingston's first youth arts festival.
